Map of Geina peak: The Gaina girl fair

Each and every year on the closest Sunday to 20 July it is organized from times immemorial "The girl fair from Gaina". This ethno-cultural manifestation was mentioned for the first time in documents in 1816. The fair took place at the height of 1467 m in a beautiful clearing. There gathered the denizens of different vales of the Apuseni to change their products. The fair made possible the meeting and the marriage of the youth from far regions avoiding in this way crossing of appropriate relatives.
It's said that the girls had came with their dotal-gifts on their horses and the marriages were allied locally by the priests that went there with this scope. The ceremony went with songs, folk-dance with "shootings" as well as the girls were taken not purchased.
Today the girl fair from Gaina transformed in a big folk feast where competed the habitants of the Western Mountain's region, of close-by counties but of farther regions as well. The preparations are made several days before as the departure in the mountains' direction is along about four a clock in the morning. The opening is made by the famous alpenhorns from Avram Iancu what is followed the artistic program of the participants that goes on until evening.
For tourists the fair offers peasant objects specifics to the region: alpenhorns, poker-worked wooden vases, and ceramics from Bihor and Zarand, wooden means, folk-weaves and cooking products.
